Slapovi na potoku Žakelj

(Žakelj waterfalls)

OPIS (Description)

(Žakelj stream originates below the Kurjeki ridge, which is linked to the Kepa in Karavanke Mountains and is the largest tributary of Mlinca stream, which gave the name of the valley east of Bela. Otherwise, a short stream in its mid part created vivid, deep and narrow gorge, where the brook flows through a number of jumpers and pools, in the end it is adorned with close to ten meters high double pane waterfall. Immediately behind the water go down about three meters through narrow groove in the "bath tub" and from there to the rock wall go down further for at least six meters to a wide shallow pool. At the bottom of the gorge is already another one, five meters high waterfall, which flows through carved gutter in a small pool, hidden behind the large rock.)

DOSTOP (Access)

(From a Dovje village pass along a forest road six kilometers into the Mlinca gorge, where starting point for climbs to the ridge Mlinca, Kepa and Dovška Baba is marked. At the first intersection of the village soon turn first left, and just before the second starting point turn right on the thin, not so maintained road (car can be left there as well). Park at the end of the road at the confluence of Mlinca and Žakelj stream (which usually has even more water than the "larger" sister Mlinca). Turn to the left - orographic right - over the stream and track up beside it. After a few tens of meters mounatianeer' markings turn right up against Kepa, continue straight ahead along a wide path that brings you in a few minutes to gravel plateau above the two artificial barrier, where the path and water disappears under the sand. After this, at a new confluence, choose the right one - orographic left - the stream where the water in the rocks occur again. Along the bed some sort of trace residue is seen, but it is better to embark through a narrow channel, which quickly leads us into a narrow gorge. After a steep cliff bellow a waterfall on our right a few pegs is added to help. We are in the heart of the gorge, where we keep marching through the channel and in the same time realise that passage through it is impossible at high waters. If we look closely, scarp that supports the rest of the former route, can be traced. At one section help of shackles is needed again to get over a boulder and so we came to the upper end of the gorge, where the main waterfall is. At low water, the very skilled can climb straight beside it, but a normal transition is found on our left side of the bulb rock, where we see some staples and pins. Above the waterfall passages lead us to jumpers mentioned earlier, and further by boulders up to the end of a stream. Then at the old footbridge there's a path that leads us over the canyon, initially a slightly upward, then down a steep wooded slope across and again down, finally back to the gravel from where we went into the canyon.)
